Our Introductory INSET is designed to embody the philosophy that transformative learning should be both exhilarating and challenging, encouraging educators to embrace ideas that may counter their existing beliefs. This session provides a foundation for deeper understanding and action.
Our introductory session, ideal for larger groups, examines the theories and concepts that support our advancing equity framework. Over 2.5 hours, this interactive session helps educators initiate or expand crucial conversations and strategies to tackle inequity.
The objective of this session is to support reflection at multiple levels, helping us identify our positions within systemic challenges. By gaining clarity on our roles, we uncover fresh opportunities for enacting impactful changes. Embracing this understanding paves the way for exciting possibilities to create a more equitable and inclusive educational environment.
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
A sharpened understanding of deficit ideology.
The ability to recognise and correct systemic inequities in education.
The skills to outline strategies that promote equity in educational settings.
Increased precision in explaining how racism impacts educational outcomes.
Self-reflective tools to improve teaching practices.

Class 13 delivered a session to our entire staff, sparking thought-provoking questions and honest conversations about our school’s role in society and our goals for the children at Sebright. The training included images, videos, and quotes to aid understanding. Class 13 is dedicated to grassroots change in education. I encourage all educational settings to make time for this.
The quotes and time to think throughout the session is really helpful. Alongside the environment created to make it feel like we can say anything judgement free.
Excellent discussion and thought provoking content … and so incredibly valuable to everyone working within education (and everywhere!!)
I found today’s session really valuable and already feel my understanding and ability to talk more frankly and openly about racism has been developed. I have a better understanding of racism having discussed it through the four layers and can see how that will be a helpful framework for future conversations with other colleagues.
I really enjoyed the session. It was really interesting, hearing the perspectives and the experiences of the other people in the room. Also enjoyed exploring the concept of prejudice vs Racism. Thanks for a great session (and notepad)!
